A New Identity
1 Peter 2:9 HCSB
“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of the One who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”
God wants to change and release a revival in the world that we are living in. But God cannot send a revival until we understand how significant we are in the world that God has placed us in. We underestimate ourselves and so we are ashamed to talk about Jesus to the world.
1 Peter 2:9 explains that when God has given you the responsibility to bring people to Jesus, He has also given you a testimony, a testimony of God bringing us out of darkness to His marvellous light, that will prepare the ground to work in the lives of people, which we can use to proclaim His name to the world.
The one thing that stops us from proclaiming His name is the fact that we don’t know who we are.
But who does God say we are? He says we are a chosen race, because we have a spiritual connection to Abraham, David, to the Israelites line of calling through Jesus.
We are chosen…
When we believe in Jesus we are plucked out of our culture and are placed in a new cultural environment.
We are royal priesthood…
We are called to be the ones who will represent the needs of people before God and bring the heart of God to people. Samuel was on of them, he was not just a prophet but also a priest. Hope that we will be the ones who will carry this call over our life as well.
We are a holy nation…
God has called us not just as a happy, prosperous and a blessed nation, but He has called us to be a holy nation, a people for His possession so we may proclaim about the One who called us out of darkness into His marvellous light.
What would it take for us to believe who God has called us to be?
Gideon thought of himself as a small person though he had every reason to believe that, but when God saw him, He called him as a man of mighty valour.
Our identity is not in our physical abilities, or our possessions, but its in God’s call over our life. And the call of God over our life is that we are – chosen, a royal priesthood and a holy nation.
Psalm 147:2–3 reveals God's heart as a Restorer rather than a Punisher. Although Israel went into exile because of its own rebellion, God did not abandon His people. Instead, He promised to restore Jerusalem, bring the exiles home, heal the brokenhearted, and bind up their wounds.
The message reminds us that while God may use friends, pastors, counselors, or loved ones to help us, true healing and restoration ultimately come from the Lord. His restoration reaches every part of our lives—our hearts, relationships, health, finances, emotions, and spiritual walk.
God knows every wound, including those hidden from others. Unlike people, who can only comfort from the outside, He sees the deepest parts of our hearts and heals completely. His healing is so complete that even the scars of past pain lose their power to define us.
The devotion encourages believers to fix their eyes on God instead of relying solely on human help. No matter how far someone has drifted, how many mistakes they have made, or how broken they feel, God is still calling them back. His desire is to restore, heal, and make all things beautiful in His perfect timing.
