Kind and Severe
Romans 11:22
Notice how God is both kind and severe. He is severe toward those who disobeyed, but kind to you if you continue to trust in His kindness. But if you stop trusting, you also will be cut off.
So often we have this image of God that He is all loving, all forgiving and compassionate and which He truly is, but there is yet so much about God that we need to know.
In Romans 11:22, Apostle Paul is speaking to the new testament Christians and says that God is both kind and severe.
He is severe towards those who disobeyed but kind to you if you continue to trust in His kindness, but if you stop trusting you also will be cut off.
We think that God’s grace, mercy and forgiveness is unconditional and it will never be taken away and because of this we take His love for granted and we continue to live immoral lives that doesn’t gloryfy Him.
The extent that God is kind, to the same extent He is also severe.
He is also severe to those who had already trusted once and then somewhere down the line they stopped trusting in Him.
This could have caused due to:
1. Falling in sin.
2. Trying to strive in our flesh
Can we come back to understand His kindness and be aware of Him being severe?
If there is anything that is stoping you from experiencing the love, kindness and goodness of God, then lay it down at the altar so you can begin to experience His kindness once again, so that you can begin to see that God is kind and severe at the same time.
Begin to trust Him once again.
Psalm 147:2–3 reveals God's heart as a Restorer rather than a Punisher. Although Israel went into exile because of its own rebellion, God did not abandon His people. Instead, He promised to restore Jerusalem, bring the exiles home, heal the brokenhearted, and bind up their wounds.
The message reminds us that while God may use friends, pastors, counselors, or loved ones to help us, true healing and restoration ultimately come from the Lord. His restoration reaches every part of our lives—our hearts, relationships, health, finances, emotions, and spiritual walk.
God knows every wound, including those hidden from others. Unlike people, who can only comfort from the outside, He sees the deepest parts of our hearts and heals completely. His healing is so complete that even the scars of past pain lose their power to define us.
The devotion encourages believers to fix their eyes on God instead of relying solely on human help. No matter how far someone has drifted, how many mistakes they have made, or how broken they feel, God is still calling them back. His desire is to restore, heal, and make all things beautiful in His perfect timing.
