Zechariah 12:10
“Then I will pour out a spirit of grace and prayer on the family of David and on the people of Jerusalem. They will look on me whom they have pierced and mourn for him as for an only son. They will grieve bitterly for him as for a firstborn son who has died.”
Series: Pray in the Holy Ghost
This week we will be studying on the topic of praying in the Holy Spirit.
We will be studying on the meaning of praying in the spirit? And how the presence of the Holy Spirit is necessary in our prayer life.
Today we will read from the old testament from the book of Zechariah 12:10 – “Then I will pour out a Spirit of grace and prayer on the family of David and on the people of Jerusalem. They will look on me whom they have pierced and mourn for him as for an only son. They will grieve bitterly for him as for a firstborn son who has died.”
This is Zechariah prophesying about a future event that is going to happen. God says that He will pour out a spirit of grace and prayer.
The Jews don’t have access to the Holy Spirit yet, but we have, as the bible says that Jesus will baptise us with the Holy Spirit and with fire because Jesus is the way, the truth and the life and He says once He goes to the Father, He will not leave us alone, He is going to give you a person, a guide, a counsellor and a friend who will be with you and in you and He will fill, strengthen and equip you.
Zechariah says that this Spirit will be a Spirit of grace and prayer. When we have received the Holy Spirit, we automatically have received the ability to pray in the spirit.
If you want to see your prayer life being revolutionised then you need to be filled in the Holy Spirit. The one reason we struggle to pray is because we pray in the flesh and so after a time period your body will automatically tire out. When you are full of the Holy Spirit, you will become prayerful. You will see this in the life of Jesus. He would pray all through the night because He was empowered by the Holy Spirit.
If you have been tired of praying on your own, can you invite the Holy Spirit and ask Him to fill you with His Spirit so that you can spend nights and days in His presence just adoring Him and knowing how good He is!
Prayer:
“Father God, You know the ones that are thirsty for this living water, You know the ones that are hungry for more of You. Lord wherever they are and whatever struggles they are faced with, I pray that the Holy Spirit will go and embrace them and elevate them from their everyday situations and circumstances into the realm of the spirit so that their prayer and words will become spiritual. Every time they sit down to pray it will not be an act of flesh, but it will be an act of the Holy Spirit. Father God I pray that You will pour out the Spirit of grace and prayer upon Your children. Thank you for hearing our prayer, in Jesus name we pray. Amen.”
