Imitating King David

by | Nov 1, 2022 | Spiritual Leaders

“And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, yet not like David his father: he did according to all things as Joash his father did. Howbeit the high places were not taken away: as yet the people did sacrifice and burnt incense on the high places.” 2 Kings 14: 3-4 (KJV)

Good morning and greetings in Jesus’ name!
Welcome back to Another Day With Jesus!
I thank the Lord, for this beautiful new month, for this beautiful new season that we are in.
I believe that the Lord will speak to us one more time.
I thank the Lord for each and every one of you who have been diligent subscribers of this podcast, who’ve been listening to the re-posts of the podcasts, even when they’ve not been new updated podcasts on a daily basis. We thank the Lord for your “shares”, reviews, every time that you’ve reached out to us saying that you’ve been blessed by a word that has been taught. It brings great joy and encouragement to our souls!
So we thank the Lord for each and every one of you. We also thank the Lord for all of you who prayed for us, specifically for my health and then, even for our home, as the Lord was adding a new member in our home. We thank the Lord for all of you who journeyed with us in this season, stood with us and believed that the Lord’s hand will manifest on our lives.
We are very grateful to the Lord for our spiritual parents, their blessing over our lives, their covering around us and their provision in spiritual and physical form that came at the right time, the right moment.
I believe it is because of the grace upon their lives that we were able to sustain ourselves through this last couple of months. In this next season, I pray and I hope that we will be able to bring you the daily podcast without any fail. So will you also pray with me, believe with me that the Lord would enable us to be consistent now in this next season.

For today’s devotion, lets read 2Kings 14:3&4. They are speaking about a king named Amaziah. It says, “And he did what was right in the eyes of Jehovah, yet not like David his father. He did according to all that Joash his father had done. Howbeit, the high places were not taken away. The people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places”.
This is a very specific description about the characteristic of this king. The Bible says that he did what was right in the eyes of Jehovah. Which means that he did not cross any boundaries, didn’t do any vulgarity or any sins in the realm. He knew how to keep himself safe, how to take care of his own integrity. And yet, the next line is a warning!
Even though he wouldn’t displease God, he did not walk in the ways of his father David, did not walk in the same sacrifices that King David had made. He did not leave the nation or inspire the generation of worshippers like King David had. On the other hand, he imitated another father, his immediate physical father, Joash and did everything that his father Joash had done. There were still high places, altars of sacrifices unto the idols and pagan gods and goddesses of the land, which he didn’t destroy. This was the expectation that God had for him!

This was something that David had never tolerated in his realm, his kingdom. Yet, here is King Amaziah, who is not imitating King David and only looking to keep himself safe. He’s only making sure to be a good Christian, a good believer but who didn’t have a good role model to follow. So he ended up becoming a king who is ordinary without creating any change. The glory of God continued to be shared with these high places and idols. The worship which was supposed to go to God continued to go to these pagan gods and goddesses.

My dear friends, could this be that this is a danger that we face too?
We feel that we’ve read our Bibles, gone to church, prayed our prayers, put our tithes and done everything required of a good believer, so to speak. Yet, we are not imitating the man that God has appointed for our lives or walking in the ways of the spiritual leaders and fathers that HE has given us. We are only doing what the physical fathers or the physical environment has set for us.

I believe that this is the day, when we break out of the bondage and disconnect from a lineage that is leading us away from God, from the assignments, purposes and plans of God for our lives. These may be people who dearly love us and whom we love. But in the spirit, you do not have to be subject to them, in the spirit you can subject to a higher voice, a place, to a higher authority. In that place, you are going to be blessed. That authority is going to cause you to rise up above and beyond your circumstances.

Lets pray:
Dear Father, we thank you for the King Davids that you have given us. We thank you for their sacrifices, the role model that they have been to us, the love that they have for your Presence, the radical giving that they have in their relationship with you. We want to imitate them. And, as we imitate them, we want to become a change in our environment.
We just don’t want to be good believers only. We really want to create an impact like King David did. We thank you for our spiritual fathers, our spiritual leaders who’ve been constantly setting an example for us. We pray that we would have the humility and the grace to submit and to imitate their lifestyles. In Jesus’ mighty name we pray, Amen.
