Transcript:

Good morning and greetings in Jesus’ name. There are certain blessings that don’t come except that we’re willing to engage in a battle. We know the story of Jacob, who had to engage in a wrestling match with an angel all through the night, at the end of which, his hip got dislocated but in return, he received a life changing identity and for generations later, he would be known as a man, who fathered the nation of Israel.  Some of the battles we face in our lives, are not a bad thing, they are setting us up for greater victories. 2 Samuel 3:1, talks about a season in Israel, after the passing away of Saul and King David in battle, the houses of Saul and David, engaged in a very long war.  Sometimes, we can get discouraged when the war is enduring for a really long time. An inner strength, an inner ability, an inner anointing has been increasing every time we’ve not given up this battle.  It could be a war in our head, in our finances or a particular ministry commitment that we have in our church or organisation. If we’re willing to stay committed, the Bible says “David grew stronger and stronger and Saul grew weaker and weaker” with each passing day. It was not Saul and David that were engaged in this battle, it was the houses they represented or generations, that were engaged in this battle. Yet the Bible says “David is the one who grew stronger and stronger”, David is the one who grew more powerful, more influential and more richer. If there is a battle that is making us grow stronger and more deeper in our walk with God, that’s a good thing, because right after we take the throne, we’re now going to fight those in this neighbourhood, more powerful than us.

See the battle between the house of Saul and David, was not an external battle with the enemy or Satan, it was an internal battle. So, there are these battles that are more painful than fighting the enemy.  There are these issues with our partner, church members, leadership team or colleague at work or our business partners but these battles, when we stay faithful and committed to fight them, intentionally understanding the purpose and the plan of God, we can be assured that we will be like David, who will constantly become stronger and stronger, in spite of what people say, in spite of all criticism we will get because of this battle, we will become stronger and stronger with every passing day.

Remember, it was David, who took over the promised land, that was spoken to Joshua and Caleb. When these guys came into the promised land, Canaan, they didn’t overtake the giants, Joshua made certain compromises, making covenants with people he shouldn’t have made covenants with and eventually, it was David who took the entire promised land, and that’s why Solomon didn’t have any battles to fight. During his days, there was absolute peace and rest. So thank God for all internal battles we’re going through today, because, it is setting us up for permanent victories to come.
