Greetings in Jesus’ name. Welcome to this beautiful new week, where the Lord is continuing to walk with you, speak with you, and, do a new work in your life. We have to journey our life along with trust and faith, which is completely rooted in the personality of God.
Let’s dive deep into the confession that David would make in the toughest seasons of his life. Let’s read, Psalm 28:7, where David says, “The Lord is my strength and my shield. My heart trusted in him, and I am helped. Therefore, my heart greatly rejoices, and with my song I will praise him.”
His prayer, and his desire is that God will help him, and, come to his rescue. David, being a king, has a lot of resources around him – he has his army, money, friends and military alliances to bank on. And yet! we see his confession, I am going to go to the Lord. Why does he say that? because, God is his strength and his shield. Now, shield is something that we use for self protection, for our own defence, when we’ve offended our enemies. Here, David, who is a warrior and a fighter says, God is the one who helps me to defend myself. And, he is the one through whom, I can win against my enemy. In other words, David is saying, I don’t just go to God for protection, but also, to show me, how to attack, how to have victory, how to gain ground in the enemies territory. David’s confession is unique, because, inspite of having a lot of resources, he chooses to put his trust in the Lord.
David continues to say, my heart has trusted in him. Let’s ask ourselves few questions this day. Where is the trust of our heart? What are we relying on? Who are we depending on? Is it our friends, family, or possessions! Do we have a back up plan that says, if God doesn’t show up… if God doesn’t fight my battles…if God doesn’t bless me… this is what we’ll do. If your heart, truly trusts in the Lord, we cannot subscribe to a backup plan. When we put our heart’s trust only in the Lord, to an extent, he is our everything, the alpha and the omega, David goes on to say, he is helped, provided for, and, blessed. And, because of this reason, the Psalmist says, his heart greatly rejoices. Genuine satisfaction in God, is based on our trust in him, and how much we rely on him. The more we fail to depend on God, the more our joy will be incomplete, the more we’ll keep on looking for other things to satisfy us. Our hearts will greatly rejoice, and, be content and happy as we trust in the Lord.
Finally, David says, that he will thank God with his song. There is an overflow in his heart as he receives from God. Now, he wants to thank God through his worship. Every blessing Lord has poured into his life, David is able to turn it back, to praise God. So, let’s adopt the same lifestyle as David’s, and, not just remain content and satisfied, with the joy and blessings we receive, but, let’s turn it back into opportunities to worship and glorify him, to thank him and sing about his goodness to the world around us.
