Truth, wisdom, learning, and good sense—these are worth paying for, but too valuable for you to sell. – Proverbs 23:23 GNT

Transcript

Greetings in Jesus’ name, I’m so excited to be with you. I believe the Lord wants us to have a revelation of where we are headed. As a generation, we are guilty of being obsessed with our today; caught up trying to eat the best, wear and do the best today that we forget we have a tomorrow to save, invest and prepare for. The seeds we sow today will result in harvest we experience tomorrow. At times, we are so short-sighted that we don’t know where to spend our resources.

I am reading from Proverbs 23:23 “Truth, wisdom, learning, and good sense—these are worth paying for, but too valuable for you to sell them.” There are four things you should pay money for: Truth, wisdom, learning, and good sense; these are too valuable to sell for money but these are worth paying for, worth investing into, spending all of your resources and energy to get , to gain and accumulate in our life. What are the things we spend money on? we spend money on food, good clothes, we spend money on great electronics; we spend money on things that are temporary; that will not help us beyond a year or a season and yet these things are worth spending money on. It says, when you hear truth, you should spend more money to get more of it, you should spend more to multiply the potential of you being able to get a little more truth. Most of us have a “truth teller” in our lives, someone who will not flatter us, but tell the truth to our faces. The Bible says it is worth giving him/her a salary in life, truth is worth paying g money for.

The second thing is wisdom, where do you receive your wisdom? Is it from scripture, from a podcast, from church, a counselor, or you are in a mentor-ship meeting? The Bible says that it is worth paying for. What are you sacrificing or willing to give up or willing to spend your money, time, energy to be able to receive wisdom.

The third thing is learning, worth paying for. As a principle, I spend money on books, on resources, on conferences, just so that I can learn a little more and I’ve heard people say this before “this conference is not worth so much money or this book, is not worth spending money on this book, when I can just freely download it” or this particular meeting is not worth spend money and going to learn a particular skill set. I think the question is not whether you are worth it. Should you invest money into training and equipping yourself? If you believe that you are worth the investment or you can trust yourself with some extra learning, then you should pay money or spend resources as the Bible says learning, “it is worth paying for” and the last is powerful-it is good sense. I wish we could pay money on a good sense, but if there are environments, people, a church a community or a family you can be part of, so there is good sense developed into you, then it is worth paying money to be part of that community. Of course, no one is going to charge you to teach or expose you to good sense, yet whatever price you need to pay – Some of us may need to take a Sunday off, give up on a good opportunity or cut off on some relationships that are going to tempt us to miss our Sunday morning services, whatever it may be, we have to be willing to pay a price so we receive good sense.

The writer of the Proverbs says “they are worth paying for but they are too valuable for you to sell” We know the story of Esau, he sold his birthright because he was hungry. He traded his spiritual inheritance for a spiritual benefit, and my hope, my prayer is that none of us will be caught in that trap. We will not trade our Truth, wisdom, learning, and good sense for something that is less valuable.
