Series: Zacchaeus’s Encounter
Something to be admired about Zacchaeus is that he didn’t go after Jesus because he needed a healing, blessing but went unconditionally, without any hidden agenda, without any demand. His only expectation for going to Jesus was just to get a glimpse of Him.
Zacchaeus was a rich person, he’s got all that he wants, he can see anybody and anything and get whatever he wants, But here he is in pursuit of something more valuable than money, somebody more precious than what his riches or networks than get him.
He’s not even demanding attention by saying ‘ I wish Jesus would come and have a meal with me. I wish Jesus would give me something i can boast about. To help me multiply my riches ‘ etc.
The only thing that he expects of Jesus is to catch a glimpse of Jesus.
Have desperation for God.
Can we have the same kind of desperation when we come to God, to say that none of the other things matter if they’re in place or out of place but to just get a glimpse of your face, then we can make due with my life, we can really grow, go into the next level, all that we need is to have one glimpse, one look on His face.
Let’s pursue to look at Jesus.
We end up worshiping whoever or whatever we constantly look at. If we constantly look at our money, then we end up worshiping it. If we constantly look at the tv, we end up worshiping it. If we constantly look at our family or spouse, then we end up worshiping them. If we constantly look at our ministry or ourselves, then we should understand that technically, we are worshiping that.
So be careful and pursue Jesus above all.
What is true worship?
When we behold God for the rest of our lives, when we are just desperate to have a look at His face, that is the best expression of worship.
When we begin to worship worldly things, they will always eventually disappoint us. But if we worship Jesus, He will never let us down.
What are your Shortcomings?
Although Zacchaeus was hungry for Jesus, he had his shortcoming. Luke 19:3 talks about how Zacchaeus was too short to see Jesus and there was a large crowd around Jesus.
So what are your shortcomings that keep you from getting a glimpse of Jesus?
Not every one of us is equally anointed or equally welcome into influential circles, we may have our own downfalls too just like Zacchaeus had his. But he had one desire in his spirit, that desire was not ordinary, the desire was exceedingly greater than the normal desires. His desire was so strong that he did not let anything stop him from attaining sight of Jesus.
Do you have a desire to have an encounter with Jesus? What are the things that are stopping you from seeing Jesus, from having an encounter with Jesus? Are you willing to come to Him right now, to lay it down at His feet?
If you’re willing to do it then He is more than able to grant you a communion with Him that is more than able to change your life and shift your life more to His.
