Careful Giving
Ezra 7:23 NLT
Be careful to provide whatever the God of heaven demands for His Temple, for why should we risk bringing God’s anger against the realm of the king and his sons?
In today’s scripture from Ezra 7, it is amazing to know that the king who doesn’t know who the God of bible is and he is making a declaration to provide everything that God demands for His temple.
You need to be intentional and careful in your giving. Your giving cannot be haphazard or emotional or your feeling, which should not be conditional or based on your situation. We have to be careful and intentional in our giving.
For instance if you are constructing a building, you need to be careful of each measurement, if any measurement goes haphazard, then the building will look awkward and it can even endanger the building coming down. You cannot make mistakes.
That is how our giving to God should be, we have to be careful in giving to Him not just in terms of money but also our time.
The scripture also specifies that if you give to the temple you are technically giving it to God. But it also says that if we don’t give, we will be risking on bringing God’s wrath.
How is giving and God’s wrath connected?
In Malachi it says that we rob God through our tithing. We cannot rob God and get away with it.
An unbeliever (the king) is giving to God out of fear and compulsion, this is how all the people gave to God in the old testament. But in the new testament we give to God out of love and a cheerful heart.
Now that we have a better revelation of the cross of how God gave His only begotten Son for us, our giving back to God is from the bottom of our heart and this same revelation made people in the new testament to sell everything and give to God which liberated them from the attachment to the wealth.
Be careful in giving to God regularly but give it out of joy and love and you will see how God will turn it around to be a blessing for you.
Psalm 147:2–3 reveals God's heart as a Restorer rather than a Punisher. Although Israel went into exile because of its own rebellion, God did not abandon His people. Instead, He promised to restore Jerusalem, bring the exiles home, heal the brokenhearted, and bind up their wounds.
The message reminds us that while God may use friends, pastors, counselors, or loved ones to help us, true healing and restoration ultimately come from the Lord. His restoration reaches every part of our lives—our hearts, relationships, health, finances, emotions, and spiritual walk.
God knows every wound, including those hidden from others. Unlike people, who can only comfort from the outside, He sees the deepest parts of our hearts and heals completely. His healing is so complete that even the scars of past pain lose their power to define us.
The devotion encourages believers to fix their eyes on God instead of relying solely on human help. No matter how far someone has drifted, how many mistakes they have made, or how broken they feel, God is still calling them back. His desire is to restore, heal, and make all things beautiful in His perfect timing.
