The Chosen Place
Deuteronomy 16:2 HCSB
“Sacrifice to Yahweh your God a Passover animal from the herd or flock in the place where the Lord chooses to have His name dwell.”
In Deuteronomy 16:2, Bible says about the ritualistic sacrifice in the Old Testament. God gave exclusive commandment as to where the Israelites can offer their sacrifices and it is a place where God had chosen to honour and dwell His name.
In Old Testament it was physical temple, but in the New Testament, it is spiritual temple, where our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit.
Bible says, all of us together are the temple of the Holy Spirit. When we come as one church, fellowship together, and pray together, that is when we are building the presence of God to come, abide and live among us.
When we realise that this is the place where God has appointed His name to dwell, be honoured and preached, the question arises as to what do we do in this place. For us the sacrifice and passover lamb was Jesus. So there is no sacrifice left for us to sacrifice for our sins to be forgiven.
Jesus has already paid the price with His body, blood and life when He died for us 2000 years ago.
However, do not take God’s love, forgiveness, grace and mercy in our life for granted. Instead choose to celebrate, worship, adore, admire, and be thankful and grateful to God in the place where His presence dwells.
The God of the Old Testament is the God of the New Testament. The same God of Old Testament continues to see through the eyes of Jesus in the New Testament because of the sacrifice He made for us.
The same God in the Old Testament, who said we need to worship and give sacrifice in the place He has chosen, has revealed the two places where God enjoys and His presence dwells.
First is our physical body that carries the presence of the Holy Spirit. Whether we listen to a song, read His word or worship, may everything we do with our physical body is directed in bringing glory and honour to God.
In 1 Corinthians 6:20, bible says we need to learn to honour God with our bodies because now we don’t belong to ourself, we belong to God.
Second is in the assembling of the saints and praying together. Don’t stop to fellowship (bible study or church service) week after week, so that we can give honour and glory to God, praise and lift up His name along with the body or family where we have been placed.
Be in constant atmosphere of worship and praise Him more than anything else today. Let it be motivated and captivated by His grace, love and the infinite wisdom of God.
Let’s be diligent in making sure to sacrifice worship in these places where God has chosen His name to dwell.
