While He is Unclean!
Leviticus 7:20 HCSB
“But the one who eats meat from the Lord’s fellowship sacrifice while he is unclean, that person must be cut off from his people.”
God has given us this opportunity to come to Him, talk to Him and receive from Him.
In Leviticus 7:20 it’s a clear mandate given about the participation of consuming meat in the sacrifice. Anybody that takes part in the sacrifice must be clean, they cannot be ritually unclean.
It’s very possible that people can be unclean due to different reasons
⁃if someone died in their house and they carried the dead body, they would be unclean for certain period of time.
⁃ Women who go through their menstrual cycle, would be unclean for particular number of days.
God clearly told them unless you have gone through the purification processes, you cannot participate in the spiritual sacrifice.
Why did God put a physical mandate and requirement like that? Why must our physical body be clean to take part in a service?
This is because our bodies are the temple of Holy Spirit. God is very concerned about how we maintain our bodies.
In the New Testament the ceremonial ritual laws aren’t really applicable, however our bodies still continue to be the temple of the Holy Spirit and there are ways to keep our bodies clean.
We must make sure our bodies are slaves to righteousness and the instruments of our bodies are being used for clean purposes.
When we live a lifestyle that is unclean, when our bodies are being defiled and impure, the Bible says it will eventually cause us to disconnect from God.
God doesn’t say ‘Don’t come to Me’, God says ‘clean yourself and come to Me, ask Me to clean you and make you pure so you can come to Me’. God is ready to do this for us this morning, whatever maybe our uncleanliness, whether it’s visible or invisible.
We must ask for forgiveness and ask for the cleansing power of the Holy Spirit to wash over us and make us new every time we come to the presence of God and into worship.
In the Old Testament, God was very specific about how to come to worship Him, what offering to bring, what to wear, what to do, what not to do, where to sit, etc. God is very particular about how to worship Him.
When we take part in worship or communion, we are becoming one with Him, we are expressing our love, fellowship and intimacy with God.
We should not refrain from going to God due to our uncleanliness but rather wash ourselves through the power of the Holy Spirit and then worship at the feet of God.
