Love Discipline

You will say, “How I hated discipline! If only I had not ignored all the warnings! – Proverbs 5:12 NLT
Transcript:

The above verse talks about a man who has his entire life ruined by one compromise he made. He was caught, like a bird caught in a trap by a hunter. His own decisions and choices has brought him to ask ‘how I hated discipline! I shouldn’t have ignored it! I wish I would not have hated it!’

Let us seek out and look for discipline, to let Godly people correct us. When they do correct us, it is not to hurt us but because they love us. Only the ones that love us are going to be willing to stand in the gap to discipline us. May we recognize help when it is staring us in the face and not turn it away.

Discipline can come in different formats. There can be discipline coupled with love, it’s easy to bear this. There can be discipline coupled with accusations, with all kinds of wrong teachings, which can be really hard to receive.

But regardless of how it comes, if we can isolate the discipline aspect from everything else, to isolate the discipline from the lack of love our parents may give us or the lack of resources we may have, all being isolated to specifically focus on the discipline we need to receive.

The verse goes on to talk about how he had ignored all warnings. Let us take the example of the story of the titanic. History has said that it is a ship that even God cannot sink, that’s what the engineer of the ship mentioned. When they heard there’s an ice berg in the way, they did not take the warning seriously. If there was one thing they could have done differently, it is to pay heed to the warning.

May our heart and mind be realigned this morning to receive all the signs of warning.

We have to be intentional to ask the Lord to warn us as we read the Word. We have to intentionally ask God to change our character, our minds and our perspectives as we read the scriptures.

The more we surrender with acknowledgement that we need discipline, the more we open the gates to God’s correction. The more we resist, the less we receive.

If we’re saying that nobody corrects us or helps us, it’s not because we’re perfect but that we need to welcome correction to receive it.

May we be known as a child of God who is willing to receive correction and warnings sent from God.
