Shriveled yet Obedient
Psalms 119:83 (NLT)
“I am shriveled like a wineskin in the smoke, but I have not forgotten to obey your decrees.”
Listen
Today’s devotion reminds us that following God often requires obedience even in the middle of pressure, hardship, and discouragement. The psalmist describes himself as “a wineskin in the smoke” (Psalm 119:83)—dry, worn out, and overwhelmed by suffering. Yet despite his circumstances, he declares that he has not forgotten God’s decrees. His testimony teaches us that true faith remains steadfast, even when life feels exhausting and every situation seems to push us toward compromise.
The enemy often uses trials to distract us from God’s voice, convincing us that obedience is pointless or too costly. But God calls us to intentionally remember His Word above our pain. As we continue to trust and obey Him, His living Word strengthens, restores, and revives us. No season of brokenness is permanent for those who remain faithful. God promises renewal, fruitfulness, and purpose to those who continue walking in obedience, even when the journey is difficult.
