Spiritual Dullness

by | Podcast

Job 9:11 (ESV)
Behold, he passes by me, and I see him not; he moves on, but I do not perceive him.

Today’s devotion reminds us that life’s trials can become so overwhelming that they dull our ability to recognize God’s presence and hear His voice. Reflecting on Job 9:11, Job confessed that although God was moving, he could neither see nor perceive Him because his heart was consumed by suffering, loss, and grief. Similarly, Jacob’s sorrow over Joseph caused him to lose spiritual sensitivity for many years, not because God had stopped speaking, but because grief had clouded his ability to hear.

The message encourages us to examine whether stress, disappointment, fear, or pain has become a barrier between us and God. Even while attending church, listening to sermons, or spending time in worship, unresolved burdens can prevent us from receiving what God is speaking. The Lord desires to restore our spiritual sight, hearing, and sensitivity so that our relationship with Him is no longer controlled by our circumstances. Through the Holy Spirit, we can overcome grief, ignore distracting voices, and once again perceive God’s guidance, experience His presence, and walk confidently in His purpose.
